I try to follow/explain as much “Japanese custom” as possible. Hari-Kuyou (memorial service for the used/broken needles that I explained on Dec.8th) is one example. For the first 3 days of new year, I didn’t clean the house & I didn’t cook soup… such a good excuse to get a break as a home-maker father. 😀

Another custom I follow is “Fukubukuro (福袋)”, welcoming New Year & wishing the best for businesses (wealth). This is our 3rd year to offer Sashiko Fukubukuro. Although some businesses apply Fukubukuro as a clearance sale of excess inventory (that’s a story of how this custom started, so no judgement here), I offer Fukubukuro to welcome New Year with hoping to encourage anyone to enjoy the Sashiko we practice. (No trend in supplies, no expiration date, and they cannot be mass produced… so there aren’t such a thing as “excess” inventory for me).

箱を開けて、「えーー、こんな素敵な布を分けて頂いていいのー！？！？えーー本当に！？！？」琴線に触れまくる素敵さ。素敵、しか言葉が浮かばない自分の語彙力の無さにがっかりしつつも、箱にしまっては、また箱を開けて布を出して手に取って「えー、こんな素敵な布を分けて頂いて良いのー！？！？、えー本当に！？！？」
送信してしまいました。💦
元旦にパッケージが届いてから、箱を開けて布を手にしたり、ならべてみたり、またしまったり、この繰り返しをI日に何回もニヤニヤ、ワクワクしながらやってます笑
布の価値を生かせる使い方が思いつかないかな、、あせらず、ぱっと何かひらめいた時に思い切って制作してみようと思います。
とにかく、とにかく素敵な布、なんです。私の琴線にドンピシャ💕
