While a society shout out the importance of “productivity” as if they can price

atsushijp, 2020年12月29日

While a society shout out the importance of “productivity” as if they can price someone’s life based on “value” they produce, Sashiko stands on the completely opposite side of “being productive”. What do we want by achieving higher “productivity”, and “winning” in a capitalistic society? It is probably the “comfortable days with no pressure”. We work so hard to achieve the “slow time” in a super fast moving society, to enjoy the mindful moment. So do I. I work so hard to be “productive”.

☆

Well, Sashiko will occupy both of our hands. No matter how “productive” I want to be, there is a limit of what I can do regardless how fast I stitch. So, while I do Sashiko, I am already achieving a goal to “enjoy the moment”. If you only try Sashiko with the fabric with “stitches-size  preprinted”, please consider learn Sashiko from us (Online Class Available). It is fun to fill these stitches sized dots on the fabric, but our Sashiko is a bit different: it may be easier to get out from the sense of “productivity” – I “can” stitch with my eyes closed. I need to check where the needle goes with my eyes in stitching the pattern, but when I just stitch freely, my eyes are pretty much free of its responsibility. Sashiko isn’t about the beauty in imperfection – it is the beauty from the moment of enjoying who “they” is. I hope my message makes sense.

The first Sashiko in 6 days…? I cannot express how relaxed I felt while stitching. Although there are no scientific references, I can be certain that Sashiko rhythmical stitching is very good to calm down. An appropriate posture (so no body pain), hand-movement (so no need to focus the stitch…

The difference between work and “a job.” I agree with your sentiment about productivity.
