It was one strange (but good!) ThanksGiving day. The great meal with family, then they went to sleep early. Alone time, when I would have been hanging out with friends. But not this year. Instead, I decided to have the Live Session to share the time with friends (you) over the Internet. Both Japanese & English.

☆

In the Live, “How long do you stitch per day” was an interesting question. When I start Sashiko, it is difficult to stop. Unfortunately, I don’t (can’t) stitch every day. So, mathematically speaking, probably 30~60 min per day. If a question is “How long can you stitch per day”, then the answer is 24 hours. If I do not need to make ends meet, I can stitch as long as it lets me. Sounds impossible to stitch for 24 hours? Well… I have done it and the archives are on our Youtube.

☆

“Kata (posture)” in the Japanese culture/rituals/practice. There, I share the importance of certain posture. When you learn/practice properly, then it will not bring unnecessary pain. As I always say, Sashiko was an ordinary practice by ordinary Japanese. It shouldn’t be painful to continue.

https://www.youtube.com/c/SashiCo/

I am very much looking forward to the discussion with @made.by.yuki and @little_kotos_words tomorrow (Sat. August 26th at 8 pm EST). When I was in total confusion with the word [Cultural Appropriation] 5~6 years ago, I tried to read as many posts, articles, and books as possible, and they have…

We stitch a lot. I share how much a needle can do. The needle works for us a lot. We believe(d) there was a spirit in it. Stitchers cease their hands on the day of Hari Kuyou to show appreciation to the spirit in the needle. That’s how Japanese have…

Sashiko is a process of caring for someone by stitching. “Caring” doesn’t have to be “Love”. Even the “Hate” is a sign of “Caring”. What is the opposite of Caring? “Ignorance”. Therefore, I want you to care for things behind a matter, practice, and culture. I do not consider myself…

I really enjoyed the live session. Thanks for sharing. Interesting about “kata”, I used to practice kata (in Karate), but I didn’t know the meaning 😁😁.
