I share a lot about Sashiko. However, it doesn’t mean that I give up the copyright. I believe that Sashiko is the public wisdom of Japanese. Therefore, I share the unedited videos of my stitching. Anyone can learn by just watching.

However, if you make “money” and/or “teach someone” based on what I share, then please let us know first. Take the class and learn the whole picture, then. I am not saying no-one should teach Sashiko but us. I am saying that I want a teacher to teach a whole picture of what we are doing when they copy Sashiko from us. As you know, I encourage people to “mimic” (therefore I share the videos). However, I need some respect as “teachers/makers” in order for us to keep sharing. You do not want to destroy the original if you are mimicking. If you have your own teacher for your Sashiko, please ignore this post (be mindful who you are learning from, though). Again, I am NOT trying to be the “Only Teacher” in Sashiko. I am just asking decency for those who may be copying Sashiko from us.

配信でも度々お伝えしているのですが、僕の刺し子への想いの核として、「刺し子は誰のものでもない（日本人みんなのもの）」というものがあります。配信で隠さずご紹介しているのも、日本の原風景を少しでも再現できたらと願っているからです。見て学ぶ日本の良さ。どんどん運針を真似して欲しいと思っています（運針会受講頂けると、漏れや誤解がなくて有り難いですが、でも真似するだけでも運針は楽しめます）。ただ、「真似したものを誰か人様に教える（＝不特定多数に見せる）場合」や、「真似したもので金儲けをする場合」は話が別です。礼儀として、必ず一言は欲しいものです。模倣は良いよと言っていますが、著作権は放棄していません。「教えるな」って言っているのではなく、教えるなら真似だけじゃなくて一回しっかり学んで欲しいという話です。勿論、刺し子には星の数ほどの種類があったはずなので、しっかりと先生がいらっしゃる場合は別です。というか、その場合は、僕の真似じゃないですから。配信で共有している運針に辿り着くまで、約20年かかりました。勿論僕の先生達はいますが、丁寧に教えてくれる程、優しくはなかったです（笑）。だからこそ、日本に帰国ができたら、日本全国の刺し子を訪ね、教えを請いたいと思っています。刺し子は日本人の日常で、日本人みんなのものです。だからこそ、先人の知恵や努力に敬意を示して、中途半端なことはしたくないのです。（生業にするなら）生半可なことはして欲しくないのです。
