Rhythm! Yes, it is rhythm. Thank you for many insightful comments in the post on 10/28. Yes, it is the “Rhythm”. Therefore, I have been sharing the importance of rhythm (rhythmical stitching) since I started sharing Sashiko in English. Check the video 3 days ago. The video shows the rhythm of our Sashiko stitching. The workshop & Online class mainly focus on the rhythm. My students would hear me saying “how about the rhythm?” so many times that the rhythm would stick to their minds & hands.

☆

If I may clarify my wondering on 10/28, it was more like “How can I share the importance of the rhythm (process) to those who only focus on the results”. In this society, it is important to focus on the result (end-product). It is sometimes wise to ignore the process. We stop imagining there are people behind the results. Sashiko is a word for the result, but not always. I believe the Sashiko’s core is the rhythm. The rhythm in the ordinary. I like Sashiko & Boro which I can feel the rhythm of stitcher (not the egoistic control).

☆

I will be in Live Streaming soon. You can actually see the rhythm I am talking about here. We are active artisans. The live Starts at 9 am EST in Japanese, then 10:30 am EST in English.

Sashiko may be a new trendy word for you. However, please know that there are people behind the word, the people who spend(t) their lives in this culture. ☆ “I am just using the word of Sashiko. I am not here to debate” is already a sign of ignorance. Those…

[Announcement] ☆ Today, I made a big change in this account. For more than 2 years, I had a policy of “No-Blocking other accounts”. This is based on my (stupid) idealism that everyone should be able to share what they want on this account & see (learn from) what I…

I appreciate many feedback to the previous post: my new voice for “Cultural Sustainability”. One of the most significant misunderstandings of the word “Sashiko” and “Boro” is that they became the words for mainly “Techniques” or “Design. Yes, Sashiko requires some techniques, and I teach them in my workshop. However,…

For me it’s the rhythm of the stitching as it looks but also the rhythm of the actual process.
