Sashiko is very simple. Anyone can learn & master it. With the proper introduction, a person may be able to practice Sashiko like we do within a few weeks. Others should be able to stitch like we do after months or a few years (when they keep practicing). Sashiko was in the ordinary. It is developed to be ordinary.
☆
I share a lot. It is my goal to pass down the Sashiko, so a lot of information is already provided where anyone can access. Many people advised me to “not-do-it”. They told me that I can lose the (financial) benefit by sharing so much. They say there aren’t only good people out there, and there may be those who copy & steal and make profit out of it. Even worse, some may claim it is theirs. Yes. I am aware of the risk of what I do. I am not that naive to think only good things happen to me by sharing what we have accumulated in Sashiko.
☆
However, regardless, I will keep sharing. Why? Because sharing is the only way to protect the original we received. If I keep it secretive, it may be filled with something completely different by popularity or easiness. We have seen in some situations & you know some misinterpretations of Sashiko & Boro. If… if someone copies and steals what we share, I want them to copy and steal exactly as how we practice. At least, then, the original will be passed down, right? After all, no one can steal the ordinary. I just do not want “it” to be different than what it is (was). For me, the financial benefit is only a means to pass down what Sashiko is – not the goal. I will keep my position as a stone in a stream of trends. I just wish, if they are so interested in Sashiko to the extent of teaching and/or publishing, they would learn the whole picture and support the people there stitching today.

👏👏👏excelente mensaje; continúa defendiendo tu cultura ♥️♥️♥️
Sharing is the true spirit of a generous soul… how lovely you are 🙏😘❤️
😍
Thank you for your wise words.
Lovely sentiments. And this piece reminded me of Australian Aboriginal art. A landscape with stars telling a story of connection to land and people. 💙🧡😎
Thank you so much for your interest in sharing the meaning of a cultural heritage. When we “copy” without understanding the meaning of it, the outcome doesnt really have any value. This is happening with so many different cultures, specially indigenous communities… you can copy a native american rug design, but if its not intrinsic with the symbols and value of that community, the artifact loose all its meaning…. same with Sashiko…. im proud of you willing to share the ordinary of your culture. ❤️
👏👏👏😉sashik❤😍
Mesmerizingly gorgeous 🤩
