Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

In the last 3 days, I took “days off”. I did everything as normal – answering the emails, and main job as house-making. What I meant “days off” is that I did not spend so much time on “Introducing Sashiko”. I had spent my time reading what I wanted to read and wood-working that I wanted to finish up. After all, what I thought in those vacant times was about “Sashiko”. As much as I hated Sashiko for a long time, it became a part of my life.

☆

In order to keep this Sashiko, I really need to focus on thinking about the “Sustainability”. It is not about the Sashiko in a sustainable fashion/environment. It is about how we can maintain the sustainability of Sashiko itself.

☆

I cannot do it by myself. Your support is very much appreciated. Your choice will make the Sashiko’s future. Sustainability requires circulations. While I introduce Sashiko culture here, I try to “sell (circulate)” what we can offer in @Upcyclestitches. If you like what I share here, please support Upcycle Stitches as well. It all connected into one mission – to pass down Sashiko to the next generation.

Frankly speaking, there isn’t much difference from Sashiko & other types of stitchery. As some say, it is just hand-stitching (running stitching) after all. Your culture should have a similar practice, and one of your ancestors probably practiced stitching similar to Sashiko. However, it is disrespectful to say “Just (Mere)…

This is a piece I started last year in 24-hours Sashiko stitching. I hoped to do the same this year, but it will be canceled (postponed). When we introduce this kind of “big” Sashiko, people say, “Wow, but I cannot do that big piece. I don’t have that much patience.”…

I will introduce some of the many “students” who I appreciate for learning from us for this week. They took my workshop/class & now I consider them (rising) Sashiko artisans. Their Sashiko encourage me greatly to keep sharing what Sashiko is.  ☆ I used to worry if I could teach…

I love learning about Sashiko and about the depth and breadth and diversity of Japanese culture. Thank you so much for the effort you put in to share this. ❤️ I hope to support your shop soon and for my Japanese language to improve enough to dive even deeper into this tradition. ❤️
