Another mind food for us. I occasionally share my honesty with anger. However, I rarely describe my feelings as “◯◯ made me angry”. I am aware of my feelings. In fact, I “choose” to be angry when something crosses the line (boundary).

☆

I used to be a Sashiko “business person”. I needed to be responsible to make ends meet for the company. Therefore, “being nice (no matter what)” was always the top priority even with minimizing (or denying) my honesty. Then, at some point of my business era, I stopped studying my feelings and kept smiling.

☆

It was just a few years ago that I decided to be honest with myself. I share my honest insight about Sashiko, and it is purely the result of being honest to myself. I understand that we are not used to being pointed out. I don’t like to be pointed out either. Please think about it, though. Are you responding mindfully or reacting instantaneously? Try to be mindful instead of instantaneous. The Sashiko helps us to be more mindful.

The Boro repaired (created) more than 100 years ago is very beautiful. Well, the boro currently is repaired in 2017 is also interesting and beautiful. This is a photo which Keiko try to recreate. The needle is in the photo. 2017-08-27 02:40:40 Source

I once wrote that the selfish reason for me to share the Sashiko we practice is to leave something behind for my daughter. I have goals & dreams in Sashiko – to pass down this culture as a “whole” practice. However, after all, I would like to “leave” something about…

One of a few Keiko’s art pieces (Tapestry). Keiko worked on this Sashiko Stitching while I (Atsushi) was in a collage far from Japan (MI). Since I wasn’t very strong, tend to get flue or sick easily, whenever Keiko received a message that I was sick, she prayed and stitched….

It wasn’t until I began to learn Spanish that I realised there is more than one way to look at emotional responsibility. In English we usually say (XX made me angry) or (XX made me sad) but in Spanish the emotions are reflexive verbs. “I angered myself” “I saddened myself” the cause is still mentioned but the responsibility is shifted to reflect that we can choose how to respond. I am just beginning to understand some Japanese (I don’t really study any formally, I am just picking some up from watching things mainly) and I was curious as to how expressing emotional changes work in Japanese and where the responsibility lies, linguistically.
