“A picture is worth a thousand words” is a true statement. However, in passing down the culture, we have to be mindful of one condition that we share the same value (presupposition, premise, mindset, and pre-existing condition).

☆

A Japanese would know how “dirty” the word “Boro” may be even before looking at the photo. Therefore, when I put the dish on the Boro, many Japanese shared their discomfort. The similar thing goes to the Jacket. This is a photo of a “Boro-to-be Jacket” in the process. This is the back (hiding) side of the jacket and many non-Japanese would say this should be the front and should show to the public. The Japanese would understand why it is a backside naturally, but I would need to “explain” to the non-Japanese who do not share the same value purposefully make this side as “hiding” side. That’s why, I keep sharing in words. One picture may be worth a thousand words, but the thousand words may be completely different based on their (free) interpretation. In sharing the culture, some “actual words” would be also very important.

Please read what I write mindfully. I do not provide an answer so easily. However, by reading carefully, you will find the answer by yourself.

Sashiko doesn’t require many tools to enjoy. Therefore, I “care” these few tools we use. One of them is the Sashiko Needle. The sharp and supple needle will make better Sashiko stitches 😀 それほど道具の準備が必要のない刺し子ですが、だからこそ、針には特別な想いを抱いています。 布を傷めず、糸を通す。 油断すると爪を貫いてしまう程の鋭さの、しなやかな針です! 2018-04-08 14:51:54 Source

I shared my “favorite Sashiko Pattern” in the previous Live Streaming, then I asked Keiko about it. Here it is. The combination of Japanese traditional pattern make it so unique and beautiful 😀 — 前回のインスタライブで触れた、「好きな刺し子柄」。恵子さんに聞いたら、この写真が送られてきました。やっぱり枠に入らない感じが恵子さんらしい。良い柄の合わせです。 — 2018-06-24 19:21:56 Source

I love Cherry Blossom – as I named my cat the name for it, “Sakura (桜)”. In PA, the Spring Wind can be quite strong. Therefore, the full blossom of Sakura is almost momentally, for a few days of blessing for me in Spring. ☆ The beauty in “Moment” (short…

Thank you, I appreciate this post so much. These things so iften get lost once something becomes visually popular and stripped of their true cultural connections and meanings. Another good post fir people to read is the one about Kimono that @little_kotos_closet wrote (maybe a year or two back).
