This is an archive of Sashiko Live Streaming in English, on Friday October 8nd.

I appcreiate many good questions on both Youtube & Instagram. I believe I read out loud the question before I answer the question.

I didn’t know the word & concept, “Cultural Appropriation”, until Spring of 2019.

I had to learn the impact of Cultural Appropriation when I was accused being “arrogant”, and some told me that “it is a freedom of choice, and Sashiko is the Art” when I asked them to respect the Japanese culture behind the word Sashiko.

Many worry about me when “Sashiko” is used in commercial situation.

Many ask me how I feel about those “usage” in Sashiko/Boro.

To be honest, I am okay “as long as they try to respect the Japanese culture”.

There are many articles & stories both on UpcycleStitches.com & our Youtube. Please check them out.

It was not the main topic of this Live Streaming. There were many interesting questions that I enjoyed answering. It would be great to learn from this educational Live Streamin on October 8th.

*I couldn’t talk about the topic of “Boro” I briefly mentioned in the beginning. I will do so in the next Live Session.

In English, everyone says Sashiko is Art. Although I have many reasons & stories to say that “I do not consider Sashiko as Art“, I also believe that Sashiko “can be” Art. I just do not want anyone to use the word (concept) “Art” to do whatever they feel comfortable…

I have been introducing this beautiful Kakishibu Color as “Persimmon Tannin / Kakishibu” Dye. I share stories of what “Kakishibu” is based on my understanding of Kakishibu in Japanese. I have to make a correction with an apology. My description was not wrong – but incomplete. I just learned that…

I try to be as “difficult” as possible on social media to share the boundaries. I enjoy “Casual Friendliness”, but a DM saying “Hey, I like your work. Tell me how I can do it” is outside of my comfortable boundaries. However, in-person, it is not my intention to be…
