Sashiko existed in Japanese ordinary. After the Japanese decided to not carry on Sashiko, due to the unnecessity, Sashiko became something extraordinary today. Simple hand-stitching for hours and hours can be an “act of insanity” for some types of people.

It is my dream to bring back “this ordinary (Sashiko)” to today’s society. The photo of a Sashiko bag is our interpretation of Sashiko. I believe that similar bags existed in the Japanese ordinary. “Recycling” is a great part of sustainability, but recycling itself may be insufficient. Sustainability probably requires the mindset of how we can appreciate “it”.

What I hated the most in my youth (about Sashiko) may be a remedy to today’s society. I will keep sharing so that you may be able to find “it” within yourself.

今週の配信も素敵な時間になりました。ありがとうございます。今回は日本語版も英語版も、「話しながら再発見する」という、とても素敵な時間になりました。まだ上手に言葉にならないけれど、きっと僕が目指しているのは、「誰もがどんな形でも安心して生活できる社会」なんです。強者とか弱者とか、勝ち組とか負け組とかじゃなく、また「好きなことで生きていく」というユーチューバー的な要素だけじゃなくて、「全てひっくるめて自分」と飲み込んで（受容して）生きていける場所を作ってみたいんだと思います。”Accept, not give-up (諦めるのではなく受け入れる）と英語での表現になるんですが、過去も現在も未来も全て飲みこんで、誰もが安心できる場を作ってみたい。その方法が僕にとっては刺し子なのかもしれません。

相当な理想論をぶち撒けましたね（笑）でも、横文字でも言われる持続可能な社会（未来の利益を失うことなく、現在も妥協しない社会）って、きっと受け入れるところから始まるんだと思うんですよね。だからこそ、声が大きい人が作る”文化”だけじゃなくて、声を出して来れなかった人たちをも巻き込んだものを伝えていきたいんだと思います。「日本人の美的感覚」という哲学的な話をしてしまったので、頭の中が面倒くさい感じになっていますが、でも、結構まじでこの理想論の上に僕の行動は成り立っているんだろうなと思います。
