In today’s social media, many people follow so-called “influencers” wishing to be like them. Especially in the young generation, it is understandable to hope to be one of these successful personnel with beautiful houses, cars, and gorgeous tangible “stuff”. I understand it because I was one of those in the past.

☆

I appreciate I have more than 25K followers now. However, I do not want you to wish to be like me. I want you to be happy with you. By following this account, you may remember (re-learn) who you are (where you are from) instead of wishing to be someone else. Throughout the workshops/class/interaction on SNS, I was taught that Sashiko is a great way to remember/learn who we really are.

☆

I dare not to decorate who I am to get attention. Driving a luxury car with million $ accessories to show off how successful I am is the last thing I want to do in this life. Instead, I would like to be a trigger for someone’s life. If one feels that their life gets a bit brighter by learning Sashiko, it is my sincere pleasure. Hopefully, my daughter will learn something from those who I had been part of their life.

☆

It is kinda fishy to just say, “You are great as who you are” without knowing who you are. However, Sashiko (or any other hand-working) may give you a moment to tell yourself the phrase, from the one who knows about you the most – yourself. Sashiko without thinking will provide the moment like this – and I would like to share that here.

Following up from yesterday. I know I would give up to finish Asano-Ha pattern if I didn’t do it in a short period of time… so I just finished it asap. Enjoying a feeling of accomplishent rather than the pain in my fingers. A bit of improvement would be needed…

I believe yesterday’s Sashiko Live Streaming (on 7/14) was quite interesting. I apologize for the first 15 min of hassle of setting up the mic, but toward the end I feel I articulated how I would reach the frustration (or pain) when I see someone disrespectful. I believe I explained…

When I think of Sashiko as a “culture”, I face a big challenge of “Sustainability” – which requires “Continuity” and “Reproducibility”. “Sustainability in Sashiko” includes the continuous requests to the artisans, and “offering their masterful crafts” will establish the “continuous practice” of Sashiko. ☆ Sharing Sashiko stories is important, but…

I follow your account because your work is beautiful and I find it inspiring and because I find your thoughts on sashiko to be extremely insightful. I would love to someday have comparable skills, but it is unlikely that I will be as single-minded in my pursuit as that would require. There are just too many other artforms that I wish to pursue as well. Thank you for all that you share. You are a gift.

Don’t worry, we don’t want to be like you. You have a huge ego. Perhaps you are the one who could learn something from us. After all, without us you’re not much.
