I have been sharing the photos & stories related to Sashiko almost everyday for a few years. I wondered if I am focusing “too much” on the cultural perspective than the Sashiko itself recently. So, I checked the posts about 1 year ago…. I was writing the exact same thing back then. “Intentional (Wilful) Ignorance” and “Read only what we want”…
☆
In 2019, in a series of sad experiences where I was criticized for “overreacting” and “being arrogant”, I learned the word “Cultural Appropriation”. Ever since, my mission is to share what Sashiko is and the stories behind it. I hope you are okay with the role of this account, and keep enjoying the stories. I share a lot of stories focusing on Sashiko’s technical perspective on Youtube & Online Class. I share deeper insight in Patreon where I can feel safer. I haven’t changed, and there is no fatal contradiction (there may be a small one because I am a human, but I can explain why it happened). Your support (to artisans/artists) is very much appreciated.

Putting my strong preference aside, I am not so much particular about “what (Result)” when people call their stitching Sashiko. Instead, I am quite particular about “How (mindset)” when they use the word of Sashiko. ☆ Stop reading what you want to read, instead read what is written by understanding…

Follow-up video of Boro, back and front side of the Jacket. Some of us (including myself) feel beauty on the patchworks, but traditionally (like Keiko) we hide those patches inside. This is the Boro jacket I wear in ordinary days to recreate the “routine” that the Japanese made Boro in….

I enjoy learning and understanding more about Sashiko and how it is bound to your cultural history/traditions and the essence it holds within your heart that you see amongst your people and at the same time unfortunately they’re unable to see the same importance as you do. In turn, you have discovered that it is your obligation to preserve and enlighten those who choose/desire to see. I believe that is very honorable and you should feel at peace🙏🏾

Keep speaking hopefully people who appreciate sashiko will be challenged into reading the truth and not feed pulp by the enablers. Anyone with a good eye is attracted to your work and will hopefully start to learn more beyond the needle .

I appreciate your thoughts. I first heard about sashiko a few years ago. At the time, I could only find two English-language books. Your experience and your willingness to share are important.
