Our school district rescheduled the fall calendar… so I will need to be a stay-a

atsushijp, 2020年8月14日

Our school district rescheduled the fall calendar… so I will need to be a stay-at-home father for a while. Since we were expecting to celebrate her first day at the school next week, this is a painful notification. As much as it will be difficult for me to create time to work, it is very hard for my daughter who wishes to have friends to hang out. An immigrant family, she is a only-child, no grandparents or cousins around, this is a very difficult time.

☆

Due to this change, I may not be able to share the Sashiko story/photo as much as I want. I will need to reduce the amount of work. I hope I can play with her as her “friend”, not only a father. However, reducing work significantly influences our lifestyle. This year is just getting more strange, and more difficult… your support would be very much appreciated.

☆

As much as I am devastated by this reschedule, as much as I need to adjust, it is my intention to offer as much as I can. I will be on the Live Streaming tomorrow, August 15th, Saturday, in the morning. (Please check the story tomorrow morning).

I love “words”. But, I don’t trust “words” so much. I feel there is something between “imagination (image in our brain)” and “words”. I share stories to outline “it” – something we cannot define or describe comprehensively in words. ☆ Let’s say, I have “a” needle now. Can you imagine…

I strongly remember some words from my grandmother (Keiko’s mom), who was a cook, while I was “helping” her to prepare the meal. She taught me that “Subtraction is important in Cooking”. While adding Miso into a pod, I wondered what she meant because I was “adding” the ingredients. After…

I got a question: “Why your Boro and Western Boro look differently?”. Great question. I couldn’t come up with an answer right away. It does look different, and I am not that interested in Boro-inspired patchwork with strong expression. I prefer a piece of Boro, which talks quietly. ☆ I…

Please don’t worry ! Take time for your daughter. I understand how it will really change your way of working and living but as a homeschooling mum I know how time with our kids is so important. They learn with us. Yes, friends are not there but perhaps you can arrange some Skype or whatever other device to talk/ play with her friends online, kids are very inventive. And they learn all the time with everything. 💙

These are strange and difficult times indeed. We all need to support each other, and we will get through it. It’s hard having to be your child’s teacher as well as parent. Hope all goes well for you!
