“A photo (an experience) is worth a thousand words (photos)” – a Japanese prover

atsushijp, 2020年8月13日

“A photo (an experience) is worth a thousand words (photos)” – a Japanese proverb originated from China. “An experience without learning is better than learning without experience” – an English proverb. Both of them are good old saying and very true. However, in todays’ society where we can “see” and “experience” anything on the Internet, we have to be smart.

☆

A video can be easily “modified” by a reasonable computer. A photo can be “fake” by using Photoshop. We don’t know what is “real”, and therefore, we have a choice of seeing “what we want to see” instead of what really is. In this case, the best thing we can do is to visit the origin of what we want to learn – not only by words or photos by someone, but on foot, to see it with your own eyes.

☆

For Sashiko, we are happy to share the view of Sashiko. However, in this strange time, it is not easy to make a visit – and it may be far & costly to make a visit. Therefore, I offer the Live Streaming of my own stitching where I cannot edit anything. The truth exists in my stitching over your screen – which is happening in the real time. I am happy that I could inspire many artists via Live Streaming, and I am eager to keep offering it.

We all look at the world the way we want to see, listen to what we want to understand, and read things to validate our own ideas. I am the same, although my goal is to learn by being honest and humble. We live in a society of “freedom”. There…

Your live streaming are so beautiful! I have learnt that there is a person far away sharing his thoughts while making sashiko with expertise, sharing his time regardless the audience. It’s a real experience!
