A short column about me (Atsushi) and Mending denim is in this week’s New York Times Magazine. I am not a big fan of the media… from my past experience. However, this time, it was such a pleasant & detailed interview experience.
☆
Sashiko is popular as a “mending technique” now, but the core is “to extend the fabric life (to strengthen the fabric)”. The phrase in the article, “Patching should be the last resort”, is a brilliant summary of me talking for more than an hour. Sashiko may be a flash trend for the majority. However, for me, it is the identity of who I am & how my life has been (will be). It was an absolute honor to be interviewed by NYC, and I sincerely appreciate their open-minds to understand what I want to share. I believe the article is an online version of NYTmagazine in the “TIP” category.

A series of piano notes by Keith Jarret saved my life. Movie “Forrest Gump” taught me the power of video. Series of Anime by Ghibli Studio changed how I view this world. Countless novels have given me the spirit of “Stories”. Since my childhood, I wanted to be “someone” who…

I often receive a question on “What is a good fabric for Boro?”. Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to satisfy what they are asking as our understanding of “Boro” is most likely different. However, I do have some recommendations that “can result in” Boro – which we call “Kofu…

We all have different values. I try to respect the personal value. It is one of the worst things to do to criticize others based on the “different value”.  Believe or not, I occasionally receive an unbelievable criticism like a fossil. They leave a comment to my videos saying, “Wow….
