Believe it or not, I was teaching Sashiko for free before. Now, I charge fees for my teaching. Many advised me the importance of “charging fee” for the time I spend. Well, the point isn’t “pay for my time” here. I learned, “People who are wishing to learn for free by asking many questions” will not really continue Sashiko… even worse, they start disliking and attacking me/Sashiko. It is so strange, but the more I tried to be generous (offering it for free), the more I experienced sadness. Am I selecting people? Umm. Anyone can learn Sashiko for free by watching my Videos on Youtube. Everyone has a different financial situation, and filtering the audience by “money” is not my preference. There are many people who learned Sashiko for free by watching videos for 100’s of hours.
☆
However, a single video clip doesn’t teach the core of Sashiko. The core can be learned by either watching the videos for thousands of hours (that’s how I learned), or paying for the “summary” of someone’s time. Sashiko is easy, but not shallow. A respect to the culture & artisanship would be appreciated.

I believe there is no such thing as “Right” and “Wrong” in Sashiko. However, in some of Japanese geometric pattern, there is the designer’s intention or “origin”. For example of Seigaiha (青海波), the photo is the right direction. I sometimes see photos with the pattern upside down. If the stitchers…

Once, in its history, Sashiko was very close to the Japanese Ordinary. For more than 300 years, Sashiko has been transforming its form by accepting the change. I have seen the change, and I may have caused the change. The reason I am speaking up now, (the case some consider…

Our goal is to share the Sashiko we practice. Then, what would we like to see after that? I would like to be part of a community – where anyone who likes Sashiko can belong to – without judgement. Therefore, it is very important to explain the Sashiko we practice….
