Sashiko is too ordinary for me to “summarize” what it is. However, what the mark

atsushijp, 2020年7月3日

Sashiko is too ordinary for me to “summarize” what it is. However, what the market (society) want is a short & effective abstract. It is important for me to keep trying to express what Sashiko is – with explaining & involving as much messages as possible.
☆
Live Streaming is one of my challenge to express my wholestory into a few hours. I may repeat the same things over and over (although my intention is to share something new to appreciate the frequent audience – friends). Well, I will think what I can do in Live Streaming.
☆
There are a lot of “imcomplete” information out there. Sashiko, Boro, Wabi-Sabi… most of the Japanese terms I often see do not describe the whole picture of what it is. I guess, it is my responsibility, as a native Japanese, to describe the missing link there. And, Live Streaming is a place where I can practice to do so.

I say the essence of Sashiko deep down there is “Praying – Inori”. Many Sashiko Stories I have received make sense when I consider Sashiko as a practice in/with/for “Praying”. Well, then I started wondering what the Japanese had prayed for… happiness? Well-being? Or Wealth? One idea I came up…

One of my favorite Sashiko tool which I found in the US is the Crayola Washable Marker. I always use this marker when I work on the denim. It really washes off. ☆ I took my daughter to the Crayola Experience for a day. 3 years old maybe a bit…

One of the frustrations I feel when I see the word “Sashiko” in a non-Japanese-related context is that they often focus on the “result”. The result is important, but the result is merely the result. Sashiko is more than that, I believe. The core is somewhere else, and the core…

Fantastic description to encourage people to learn more from you. Wish I lived closer as I miss my late teacher & there are so many things I’d always wanted to ask her.
