I have been introducing this beautiful Kakishibu Color as “Persimmon Tannin / Kakishibu” Dye. I share stories of what “Kakishibu” is based on my understanding of Kakishibu in Japanese. I have to make a correction with an apology. My description was not wrong – but incomplete. I just learned that the Japanese “Kaki” is not the same as general persimmon. (Botanically speaking, it is the same, but the Kaki we use for dyeing purposes is the Kaki originated & raised in Japan.) ☆

No matter how careful we become, this kind of misunderstanding happens in translation. A.I. will provide us a language free society soon (anyone can communicate over the translation App regardless of the languages). However, sometimes, there are more stories than just simple translations. Therefore, I believe in my role in this “convenient” society. Sashiko is often translated to “Little Stubs”. You may believe it because you read/heard it somewhere. Are you sure? Again, “doubt what you already know”. ☆ – – – ☆

One of the biggest learnings in Japan this spring was from the master of Koginsashi – Takagi Sensei & members of Mokuyoukai. The Instagram post is a bit “instantaneous” to share what the learning from them is… but it is indeed the moment of “change” in my Sashiko Life. ☆…

It is Thursday, and I will have a Sashiko Live Streaming at 9 pm EST on Youtube Channel [Sashiko Story]. The more I talk to Japanese Sashiko artisan, the more I feel the need to communicate the stories that haven’t been shared. We (as Japanese) do not realize how “unique”…

I enjoyed seeing kaki fruits hanging in the trees against the snow in Ojimachi.

This is what I really enjoy about your posts. “If you don’t know you find out, if you find out a small piece of information you strive to find out more & if something doesn’t make sense you continue to research & question.” Thank you for your explanation & your work on better more accurate translations.
