I see what is going on in the Sashiko trend – “Fantasized Sashiko”, which link to what I keep writing – we read (believe) what we want to read (believe). “Environmentally-friendly”, “Zero-waste”, “Sustainability”, “Slow-Fashion”, “Slow-Stitching”, and more. There are many keywords linked to the trend of “Sashiko”, but none of these are the core of the Sashiko (although, Sashiko can produce the phenomena as a by-product). There is nothing wrong with fantasizing the word Sashiko. Human beings created this word by fantasizing who we are in the fictions. However, trying to learn the original form (before transformed into fantasy by freedom) is quite important – because beautiful fictions can repaint the (inconvenient) truth. This is another reason I am not a big fan of the word “inspired”. I am very happy that Sashiko inspires many artists/stitchers. However, please do not use the expression “inspired” as the excuse to ignore (not to learn) the original form of Sashiko.

My father will probably laugh aloud if I tell him that Sashiko is now somewhat fantasized. We never thought of the this type of transformation of “Sashiko” in form of “a word”. ☆

Another question I often receive is “How can you make your stitches so even?”. The answer is quite simple → “They are even because I do not try to make them even”. As long as one tries to be “perfect” or “precise” in stitching, it isn’t easy to have even…

A video I found online gave me enormous pain – that I couldn’t breath for a while. A person making holes on nice fabric with using a stick Flat File, then mend it, and call it “Boro” phrasing “Art” introducing their new “collection”. This is why I do not call…

A follow-up for the socks I had mended last Spring. The socks are for the winter, so I started wearing them heavily in last few weeks. The more I wear them, the thread integrate to the fabric. It is the beauty of Sashiko thread: to be the part of fabric…

I really enjoy your writing and appreciate the things that I learn from it. Thankyou. Your post here remind me of something else I read just a couple of days ago. It was from a writer, Carl Sagan who discussed in his book The Demon Haunted World how a great deal of our everyday thinking is informed by superstition, metaphor and even mythology. We are quick to develop stories that give us comfort
