Would you like to stitch the entire denim like this? Then, I strongly recommend learning Sashiko from us. Sashiko is getting its name for “slow-stitching” and “therapeutic-stitching”. I agree with that – it is therapeutic and slow (in comparison to machine embroidery). However, “stitching slow” is not the core of Sashiko – I believe the Japanese wanted to stitch faster and better. ☆
When one enjoys Sashiko one stitch by one stitch, the whole denim may take months (ore more) to complete. There is nothing wrong with that… but I wouldn’t keep myself motivated to do so. Instead of taking months to complete this, learn how to complete it within a few weeks. There is a way to do it, and I offer the class to teach that. Many people from our workshop/class now enjoy Sashiko on the denim with incredible speed and results. Would you like to be the next? The Online Sashiko Class is available through @upcyclestitches, and/or a link from our profile. ☆

I say there are no rules in Sashiko. More accurately, my message is “There is no such a thing as Right and Wrong in Sashiko”. However, it doesn’t mean “whatever is fine”. In a dualistic mind, I see Sashiko in 2 tendencies of “Must Follow the Rule” or “Do whatever”….

In my Sashiko workshop, I tell a LOT of stories. However, I differentiate the workshop from the lecture. I share the very minimum information they have to know in the first 20 min, then jump into the practice. While they stitch, I share many stories as if I am layering…

In Japan, the term between August 13th to 16th is known as “Obon” (slightly varies on yearly calendar, and it can be in July based on Area). While Obon, we offer ceremonies/rituals to have our ancestors back to us (to the house). The story originated in Buddhism, and as a…

That’s a lot of stitches! I’d just do the back pockets and maybe a couple of inches above the leg hem. But this work IS very beautiful!
