Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

atsushijp, 2020年6月24日

Among many kinds of Sashiko thread, I used only a few kinds of thread. To enrich the color availability, I added another thread which is almost identical to the thread I use. Then, 2 years ago, in order to encourage Sashiko fans to use the “Sashiko thread” instead of “whatever thread”, I started looking for the alternative for our favorite Sashiko thread – Since our thread is not designed to offer wholesale with regular standard, it can be difficult to get especially when a customer lives in a different nation (although all of our threads are available in the U.S. & Internationally at @upcyclestitches.)
☆
Our goal is to share the Sashiko. And, the “Thread does matter”. I want you to use “Sashiko Thread” rather than “whatever thread you have”. However, “Sashiko thread” also has many varieties. It is my personal policy to sell “Only what I like to use” in Sashiko. It took 1~2 years to test the thread, and I started selling them as a good alternative of our Sashiko Thread in 2019 on our website – It is Daruma Sashiko thread – offered by many other sellers. ☆
Here is a photo comparing the new thread. Also the article is available (https://upcyclestitches.com/sashiko-thread-update-2020/). Although Daruma thread is available in many stores, if you have a choice, please purchase them from Upcycle Stitches since your support will help us keep researching & testing. Also, your support will help me to develop the wholesale option, then it may be easier for you to get the Daruma thread nearby you. ☆
Please be advised. Thread Matters in Sashiko. ☆

We used the Sashiko thread that we decined “Failure” to the beautiful bag we introduced. There is no such a word of “failure” in Sashiko. As long as you never give up, everything can be a part of beautiful piece. Everything is about preference. No right, No wrong. No success,…

Once I found an advertisement for the event saying “Sashiko technique” and “Learn the tradition”, which was not related to the traditional Sashiko in my understanding. I asked the person (who posted) how they decided to link the event to the word “Sashiko”. There may be information/documents I don’t know….

This weekend, I was supposed to be teaching the Sashiko Workshop in a beautiful Saori Weaving Studio in NYC (@loopoftheloom). This strongly reminds me how the world has changed. It is quite sad. I do not know when I can offer the in-person workshop next. We all have to adjust…
