Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

I am on a journey of learning more about Sashiko/Boro, like you are. However, there are 2 statements I can make.
1. Sashiko is NOT the word for Pattern/Design.
2. Boro is NOT the word for specific stitching Technique.
When one has a “western” mindset, they may feel, “Atsushi, instead of stating what is ‘Not’, Define what Sashiko/Boro is if you would like to spread your opinion”’. Well, first of all, what I share is not my opinion. Second, what are they rushing for? Process of defining & thinking (feeling) what Sashiko/Boro are is the whole purpose of me sharing the Sashiko. Mindful & Respect to the hundreds of years of practice. Don’t expect an answer in 100 seconds. ☆
I welcome everyone to be on board of this journey. Only ticket you need is mindfulness & respect. Of course, it would be great if you could be a bigger part of this journey by sharing what I do to others, mindfully choosing the supplier (including our web store), and learning more of my honest insight (on Patreon). “Japanese” is not the free-pass to be on board. “Try to understand Japanese” is the only ticket I need. The journey continues until the day I stop. ☆

Photos from the previous projects. The day when my friend asked me to work on the “4-days Denim Project”, it was the day I completed this jacket (after so many days in pending. I appreciate my client for being so patient). It is the same pattern, shippou, but by adding…

“Is Sashiko Art?”. I had a Live Streaming only in Japanese to share my understanding about Sashiko as Art or Non-Art. There are many reasons why I do not consider Sashiko as Art. It is almost meaningless to discuss to “conclude” if Sashiko is Art or not because the “definition”…

That was a great caption. So well written. Knowledge takes time and dedication… Craft people aren’t Google spitting out answers like machines… Its our life’s work. いつもありがとうございます!
