As I introduced a concept of Japanese craftsmanship yesterday, some part of me wants to follow the “strict” tradition – learn by watching. One of the offers I came up with is the Sashiko Live Streaming, where people can watch me doing Sashiko without editing & modifying. Well… it is not strict at all since traditionally, the views should be limited to someone who decided to commit themselves in it… Well. I am adjusting to this world, too.
☆
I personally welcome “well-thought” questions. Traditionally, a question would not be answered. An apprentice would figure it out by themselves. They do not even dare to ask questions to masters (It is rude to take someone’s time). So, I am nowhere close to their craftsmanship and strict tradition any longer, but I just can’t let the word walk by itself. ☆
On Youtube, Sashiko Live Streaming in English on June 12th (Friday) at 9 am EST following the Japanese version starting at 8 am EST. I welcome a question, but please be mindful & respectful. Your comment will encourage me to talk more. I will ignore a jerk (and may make fun out of them). This is something I can do to pass down this beautiful ordinary culture. ☆

As much as I share my concerns about “Sashiko introduced in English”, I Never say (and feel) it is painful to see people enjoying Sashiko. I really do want them, and of course you, to enjoy it. What is the difference between those whom I encourage to enjoy Sashiko &…

We have some Japanese vintage fabric with Sashiko stitches on in stock. From time to time, we stitch for no reasons and no purpose. Atsushi will start introducing it one by one. 昔からの刺し布。 やっと時間が出来たので、少しずつ紹介していけたら良いなぁなんて思っています。古布と刺し子の相性は、やっぱり最高です。 needlework 2017-05-16 19:20:39 Source

What a generous and thoughtful offer. It would be such an honor to witness an artisan at work (I hope to make some of it, my Friday’s are very busy). To think through the changes you are taking to tradition and letting people know those differences is how I believe we can share our cultural heritages without disrespecting history nor refusing to share for the sake of “how it is done”. Every generation is different from the previous and the next. The world changes and we are impacted by those changes. I believe in the goals of repairing damage to others by uprooting colonialism, racism, oppression, and individual biases. I also believe in finding personal identification, curiosity, passion, and development by learning about other culture’s crafts and arts. Thank you for your ongoing process through the challenge of authenticity, tradition, and sharing with others.

Thank you for sharing your time, craft, and culture. I recently received an order from your shop and was super excited, even just by receiving a handwritten thank you note. I’m excited to repair some jeans that were torn in a bicycle accident, embellishing them with a story while reading the fabric’s wear patterns. Thank you for teaching Sashiko with all it’s stories and meanings.
