I would like to spread the beauty & enjoyment & empowerment of Sashiko. Therefore, a trend is very much welcome. The more people talk about Sashiko, the more chance they will get to know Sashiko. At the same time, I realize that Sashiko is my identity, and I cannot just keep silent when it (may/will) be repainted. I did not expect sharing the culture & craft is so difficult. I respect a free interpretation of Sashiko. I embrace the outside-of-the-box ideas. Many friends I met via Sashiko have inspired me beyond my words. ☆
Is it too much to ask to “think” before using a foreign word for them? It is too difficult to care for the stories & people behind the word they are using? I believe you are NOT the one who ignores the cultural message (Reading my message is quite tiresome… I mean, it is long.) Please share. Please spread both “Beauty of Sashiko” and “The story of Sashiko”. Your action will change the color of the trend. I tried to be a stone in a trend to take a different route… Well, I will be a beaver for anyone to come back “home”.

日々小難しい事を書いていますが、「刺し子の楽しさ＆素敵さ」を伝えたいという根本には変わりありません。ただ、刺し子が”Sashiko”になることにより、諸先輩＆先人達が築き上げてきた「刺し子らしさ」が変わるのが嫌だから、必死に英語で説明しています。では「刺し子らしさ」とは何かという疑問が出ると思いますが、それは僕も模索中。日本人が培ってきた刺し子だから、日本人的な感覚で一緒に考えて行きたいのです。英語圏では、日本の刺し子好きの皆様が吃驚するようなものにまで、「Sashiko」というタグがついています。そうやって不自然に変わっていくのが嫌なんです。日本の刺し子ってなんだろう。日本人の刺し子ってなんだろう。僕にも答えはわかりません。でも、それは決して、今の一部の流行になっているSashikoではないと思うから、やっぱり笑顔で無言を貫く場面じゃないと思うんですよね。
