Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

atsushijp, 2020年6月3日

I will bring the Sashiko back to SNS. However, it doesn’t mean that I will stop learning. After learning the hashtag, I stopped. I talked about the issue with my family after reading as much as I could. I don’t know what I can do. I have to act. Not violence/riot at all. Absolutely not. I will NOT shift this account to political topics – this is for Sashiko. However, I will keep learning (and it may occasionally  create overlap messages). ☆

Umm…. I keep deleting. I try to be positive, and hopefully try to sound “nice”. F__K that. No matter how we think differently, Black Lives Matter. The word Matters. There is Nothing which does NOT matter to the individual. To me, it is quite sad that we have to say “Black Lives Matter”. Of course, they do matter. It is sad we have to rephrase something ordinary (however, it is not ordinary in the history, therefore this is happening). It may be similar to the feeling when I have to say “Japanese” Sashiko (Sashiko itself is a Japanese term). Being in a majority (white) is not an issue here. A history of ignoring (minimizing) voices of the minority (suppressed/silent group) is the issue. Trend itself is not a problem. How to act in the trend form a solution, or a problem. ☆

I try not to judge who “we (you)” are, however, “what ‘we’ do” can be a great solution, or the same problem in future. It is time to care more than ever. The internet can deliver the silent voice. It is time to talk. It is time to educate ourselves. White Privilege itself is not a matter of good or bad. Ignoring (minimizing) the White Privilege causes the issues. (The same thing goes for the majority – like Japanese in Japan). Please, please “care” for the others, and most importantly yourself. Being white is not a cause of problem. Ignoring the fact and stop educating ourselves is the cause- and it can be solved by caring for others. ☆ (Please forgive me if I write something incorrect & irgnorant. I am still learning, and I will not write about the topic outside of my wisdom any further here. Thank you for your comments & I will go back to the “ordinary”, with praying for the caring society). ☆

日本語でも書くので、少しお待ち下さい。日々勉強です。 ☆

I am leaving to NYC for the 2 workshops. One on Friday night at Japan Society (@japansociety_nyc) for the very introductory workshop & one on Saturday for a full-day-length of Sashiko Stitching Experience at Tatter Blue Library (@tatterbluelibrary). I was informed that there are one or two spots available at…

In the previous post, I may have caused a misunderstanding of “Atsushi Needs to Look at the Faces to offer a better workshop experience”, and therefore Online Class may be less ideal. This isn’t true. I just need a few movements to identify how I can help. For example, body…

We humbly accept the admiration of you saying “Your Sashiko is (Fine) Art”. However, I feel uncomfortable considering “Sashiko stitcher (like ourselves)” as (Fine) Artists for several reasons (I shared the reasons on our web – upcyclestitches.com). Well, however, it is important to “expand” the comfort zone. This photo is…

The most important thing you can do – I think – is exactly what you are doing: teaching your child compassion, equality, and the why (the history and sociology) and setting an example with your own caring. Our children are the future, and they will do as we do (after they get through adolescence 😉) ❤️

Respect & education are the key to most of the problems we come across & you are doing your best to do both. Whether that’s by educating us or yourself or your little family. And respect, where we live we have national sorrow day & an indigenous elder educated me the other day that she thought it should be renamed national respect & educate day.

Thank you for this post and for the work you do educating people on Sashiko and how to respect Japanese culture and tradition while creating! I learned a lot from the article called “In Defense of Looting” on The New Inquiry. As a white person who has never experienced police violence or systemic racism, it was difficult for me to understand rioting, but I have a better understanding now.
