atsushijp, 2020年6月1日

“Free Jazz” can be Free Jazz because they play the standard well. The history of Free Jazz includes some of the contents I need to educate myself more, so I won’t dig this topic any further. However, I believe, they did not call a beginner of Jazz playing a single note as “Free Jazz”. It became an antithesis because Jazz masters (such as John Coltrane) wanted to make something new. ☆
This applies to many other art/music/craft. Without the basics, “free” can (may) lose its value. Without learning the basics, an “interpretation/improvisation” can (may) repaint the culture. That is why I am speaking up like this – which I wasn’t planning & is outside of my comfort zone. ☆
I made another video on Youtube explaining how important the basics are. Please check it out – it has been almost 10 years since I had enjoyed playing the piano… Wow. (https://www.youtube.com/sashico) ☆

In the post where I shared how badly I was (emotionally) bleeding, one said to me “All You Do is Complaining”. It is an example of stabbing with their good intention. It happens a lot. I just didn’t expect to be stabbed when I just got up from the pain…

Over the last weekend, before it gets too hot & humid here, I worked outside in our backyard. Normal routine work, but then I realized my pinky finger doesn’t move well, following with a bit of pain. On Sunday, I cooked dinner for 2 families (of course, without this taping)….

Last weekend, I had the great fortune to greet a “ Living Legend” in a Japanese Textile industry. She is a pioneer in introducing the Japanese textile (especially Shibori) to outside of Japan. This March, I will have a great honor to be in the same talk-event at (@selvedgemagazine). As…

i really like this analogy. no free style unless you learn the basics and the boundaries. then you are free to break them…
