Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

I am an ordinary Sashiko stitcher. I know many more great Sashiko stitchers, and I sincerely respect them (wish to be like them). Everything else besides Sashiko, I am quite “clumsy”. Keiko can do a lot of things in fabric-crafting, but we can be who we are thanks to many skilled friends & generous supporters. Therefore, I can speak up the power of “caring”.
☆
I know that the words are insufficient to describe. However, without words, we may lose something very important. As much as I would like to spend more time in stitching & creating, I commit myself to keep sharing my words. I have many other Sashiko friends who learned from me. There are many “skilled craftspeople in fabric (like tailor, patterner, seamstress and such)”. I do what I can do to keep this beauty from “Do whatever”. A culture is much deeper than “We can do whatever”. ☆

Come to think of it, the “Talk” on this coming Saturday about [(Cultural) Appreciation vs Appropriation] is the first time for me to talk to a person about how I feel about “Cultural Appropriation”. I have made several videos on Youtube. I have written a few blog posts. I got…

Sashiko Patches for the Jeans bottom edge. Now Atsushi is editing the video how he made them. Coming up soon! 2017-04-18 15:04:39 Source

End of September. Beginning of October. I love Autumn. I used to be a smoker. The cigarette changes its taste from heat, humid and joyful to dry, cold, and somewhat “ending” something.  ☆ It is the end of the Indigo Season. I am cleaning out the tiny garden in our…

Lovely words and while you speak from your Japanese culture, I can feel a similar passion. I am so proud to a crafter, embroiderer, fabric and yarn explorer these days. When I was a young woman (1960s and 1970s) such pursuits were denigrated and belittled as women’s work. That did not stop my lifetime obsession(s)! And the sharing of all our stories on Instagram has been so wonderful. Lovely people who love to share knowledge and experience! I have learnt so much these last few years. Including a fascination with Japanese darning, embroidery and clever knot bags and cloth wrappings. Joyous times. Thank you again.
