I love Cherry Blossom – as I named my cat the name for it, “Sakura (桜）”. In PA, the Spring Wind can be quite strong. Therefore, the full blossom of Sakura is almost momentally, for a few days of blessing for me in Spring.

愛猫にその名前をつける程に、桜が好きです。今住む家を選ぶ時も、妻があーだこーだ言う横で、「この家が良い。桜の木があるから。」と言うほどに、桜が好きです。春の風が強いこの地域では、桜を楽しめるのは、ほんの一瞬です。すぐに桜吹雪になっちゃう。それでも桜を愛おしく思うのは、きっと育った家の目の前の川沿いに、桜が並んで立っていたから。人は過去に戻ることはできませんが、過去と共に生きることはできます。刺し子にもそんな思いが込められていたのかもしれません。想いを馳せるのです。人は何を思って刺し子をしたのだろうか……。今のように（僕達のように）人様に（を）”見せる（魅せる）”刺し子だけではなかったはず。むしろ、内的なベクトルの刺し子が多かったんだと思います。それでも追求し続ける美。刺し子はとても簡単で気軽な手芸です。ただ、簡単で気軽だからといって、「浅い」わけではない。それを英語で如何に非日本語圏に伝えるか。人生をかけての挑戦となりそうです。一瞬でもいい。毎年同じ時期に咲く、桜のような日常を作っていけたらと思います。

満開の桜も素敵ですが、風が吹いて散っているとき、地面に落ちた様も好きです。花が咲く前は、あの辺欲しいなぁと思って眺めちゃいます
