I would like to remind – Sashiko is(was) an ordinary practice developed in the ordinary. Therefore, the extraordinary is(was) not common in Sashiko. We define “extraordinary” differently – some may think Sashko itself (as the result of days of hand-stitching) is already the extraordinary (unbelievable) practice. ☆

What I mean here as “extraordinary” is unnatural pain or suffering. The only physical result (for me) from Sashiko is a dry finger due to the fabric constantly absorbing the moisture. Other than that, Sashiko shouldn’t be in pain or suffering. I can stitch for 24 hours non-stop (and I have done it in 2019 and archived it on Youtube – check if you don’t mind watching me stitching for 24 hours…lol). Of course, one may get a calluses, but with using the thimble appropriately, the pain will be minimized or none. I have heard many feedbacks about how the pain is eased after the Online Sashiko Class. The Online Workshop is not only about “how to make stitches beautiful” but also “How to enjoy the process of Sashiko”. One of my goals is to encourage Sashiko to be your ordinary. ☆ – – – ☆
プレゼントを頂きました。とても素敵な針目。とてもお洒落な色使い。刺し子には膨大な時間がかかります。ましてや、これだけの大作となると、一般的には”非常識な”レベルでの時間が費やされます。「そんなに同じことして楽しいの？」と言われるのですが、うん、楽しいのです。頂いたプレゼントからも、そんな刺し子に対する喜びと遊び心が感じられて、本当に嬉しく思います。「こんなに時間を費やしてもらって申し訳ない」というより、「楽しんでくれて、そしてプレゼントしてくれてありがとう」と。運針に慣れてくると、何時間でも続けられます。空腹感と眠気がなければ、それこそ終わりがないままずーっと刺せます。なんでなんだろう。理由はなんとなくわかっているのですが、まだ上手に言語化はできていません。長時間の刺し子は手の潤いを奪ってしまうので、手のケアだけは忘れずに（忘れると僕の手みたいなことになりますｗ）。（日常だった）刺し子を楽しんでいただけるのが、何よりも嬉しいのです。 ☆
