This weekend, I was supposed to be teaching the Sashiko Workshop in a beautiful Saori Weaving Studio in NYC (@loopoftheloom). This strongly reminds me how the world has changed. It is quite sad. I do not know when I can offer the in-person workshop next. We all have to adjust to the new normal. I will keep offering what I can do – including the Online Sashiko Class & follow-up online gathering. ☆

I spent 2 years developing the Online Sashiko Class. The core message/technique I want to deliver in my workshop often requires personal attention. It is not like, “You watch the videos, and you will be a master”. Some get frustrated because of their progress (the brain understands, but the hands do not move as the brain says). The 3 section courses in Online Sashiko Class is a fruit of my struggle. I do not trust myself fully, so I will support the participants throughout the email & zoom. Many left good reviews there (Thank you!). ☆

In today’s society, anyone can be a teacher in anything. It is up to us (students) to decide who we learn from. If my message in Sashiko is merely on “making beautiful stitches & enjoy slow-stitching”, then I did not need 2 years to prepare the class. As you may know, all the basic information is on Youtube already (for free). It is my goal to share the Sashiko to anyone who is willing to learn – ideally for free of charge for anyone, but I charge the fee for the “core” where they may need my personal attention. ☆

Being said… is there a need for me to create another “(Before) Basic Online Class (with fee)” which shares the knowledge of which thread, what tools, how to prepare the pattern, and such? I guess we all need to adjust the “new normal”. The Sashiko Mask I made changed my perception to “Sashiko as Art” a little bit. I may need to change myself toward protecting the Sashiko we practice. Please advise me what I “can” do in today’s world. ☆ – – – ☆

As much as I wish to share Sashiko, I am willing to learn. ☆ After completing 30% (!?) of packing to QuiltCon2020, I start wondering, what is MQG’s “Modern” indicate. I focused on my Sashiko workshop so much that I almost forgot the important learning opportunity: To understand what I…

Sashiko is NOT the word for “Mending”. Yes, “Mending” is an important part of Sashiko, but the core essence of Sashiko exists opposite of mending. They stitched Sashiko so that they could avoid “mending” as much as they could. While people of today “appreciate” the mending out of many choices,…

The workshop by @sashi.co gave us the pleasure of needlework together. It may be 12 months from now, but everyone in NY is looking forward to your next non-virtual workshop!

We all do what we can and if we leave ourselves open to change, that is a good thing, right? Open mind and heart to the world. The teacher becomes learner, becomes teacher. Full circle. 🌸❤️🌸
