Thread matters. There are many reasons we call it “Sashiko Thread”.
☆
Some Sashiko beginners think that any kind of thread is good for Sashiko. It is true that a stitcher can use any kind of thread – the cheapest thread from a mass-produced chain company or a thread she/he had in a drawer for a long time. However, the appropriate thread makes a huge difference in both the beautiful result & smooth process of stitching. There are many reasons why we call it “Sashiko Thread”. (
☆
You may feel that the “Sashiko thread” we offer is expensive. Yes, it is not cheap. However, the price range of our thread starts about $8.00 (for 100 meter) and $13.00 (for 145 meter) to $30.00 (hand-dye & One of a kind). They are LARGE. When we do simple math, our thread costs $2.00 per 25 meters, and $1.90 per 20 meters. I believe we offer competitive pricing. Sashiko requires a lot of thread, especially if you follow the Sashiko we practice. We have more than 30 years of experience in Sashiko, and we can say with confidence – Thread matters.

As Sashiko becomes popular, I find numbers of misleading, simplified, and insufficient descriptions of what Sashiko is. This unfortunate “change” happens due to the lack of commitment of teachers who think they know about Sashiko enough. The commitment isn’t necessary when one’s purpose is just to enjoy Stitching. However, when…

Natural Dye Sashiko Thread, hand-dyed by Keiko Futatsuya, will be (hopefully) restocked soon. Since we do not have a production line, we can only offer 8~15 threads in each dyeing-batch considering the defect rate. Well… to be honest, I am very much relieved that Keiko can still work on her…
