As hearing the National Emergency to combat the virus from the US government, I feel a bit easy to share this information below. I was planning to share this a month ago, but I was hesitant. Now, with all of the effort in everywhere in the world, I believe the situation will get resolved sooner.
☆
The year 2020 is the year for me (Atsushi) going back to Japan for the 1st time in 7 years. I made a plan to bring Sashiko friends to Japan, to many places where I can share the authenticity of Japan. This 1st (unofficial) tour will be the foundation of the following (official) tours in 2021 and later on. In 2020, it starts on Oct.2nd, then ends Oct.12th in Japan. There is, of course, a chance of canceling the plan if the pandemic doesn’t end. However, I would like to do all preparation to have hope – instead of disappointment. ☆
If you are interested in a Sashiko/Boro/Textile/NaturalDye time with us in Japan, in October with a small group of people, please open your schedule from 10/2 to 10/12. We focus on “experience” rather than “sightseeing”, and I am proud that I have arranged so many authentic activities to experience the Japan I am in love with (many shopping opportunities as well). I will share more information on a newsletter from Atsushi’s Website (upcyclestitches.com). I just wanted to share my hope toward the future. ☆
Date is 10/2 to 10/12, starts in Tokyo (HND/NRT) and ends in Osaka (KIX). The cost estimate is about $5K to 5.5K USD (including travel, stay & experience. Airfare to/from your country is not included) for now. You may DM me if you are interested (please send the email address so I can follow-up with the detail). Again, safety & health is the priority. There is a possibility of cancellation. However, I wanted to share the possibility of hope and my long-wishing dream!

This is my 5th year of teaching Sashiko. Life is interesting. I am realizing what I had considered as “Mediocre (in today’s society)” is actually what the others are interested in learning. ☆ I have not met anyone who teaches Sashiko in the same way as I stitch/teach in me…

While sharing our Sashiko Story, I realized that “culture” may be defined as a means of standard deviation for the people who live “there”. When we live in the same culture, we sometimes understand each other without extra explanation. It is because we have our stories within – in mutual…

As I often say, there are no (absolute) rules to follow in Sashiko. There is no right or wrong in Sashiko. However, there are a number of “Local” Sashiko Rules that enrich Sashiko. In my Sashiko Class, I teach the rules we follow – but also mention that it is…

Great to plan, adds to a positive outcome. Let’s hope these stricter measures the governments are starting to enforce worldwide start to have an effect on a positive outcome & in turn lead wonderful experience.
