Feb.8th was the day so-called – KotoYouka. In some regions in Japan, people practice Harikuyou on 2/8. (The photo is Harikuyou from the Harikuyou I practiced last year, on 12/8. Check the post on 12/8 for more details).
☆
I do not practice Harikuyou on 2/8, yet I decided to appreciate myself by not doing a lot of work. I spent a lot of time in meditation – thinking about what is going on around me now. Many people call Sashiko “Slow-stitch”. Although I advocate the importance of stitching fast in Sashiko, I agree it is very important to “slow down oneself” in this busy day. And Sashiko can be a good method to slow me/them down. ☆

I often receive a question asking: [How can I respect your Sashiko Culture]. “Wondering & Thinking” is already respectful, and I feel a lot easier to talk to them in comparison to talking to someone who thinks they know all about Sashiko. At the same time, I have been thinking…

Sashiko and Animism. The article I wrote almost 4 years ago (!) still describes my point well. Shinto (Religion which originated in Japan) is not equal to Animism, but they share some similarities. Shinto is animistic at some level. In Japan, following Shinto, they believed in the existence of “spirit”…

Sashiko Jacket by SashiCo & Keiko Futatsuya. It has been 5 years since Keiko completed the Jacket & took photos. I was a full-time stay at home father back then… Wow. 5 Years. Things change. I operate a business (@upcyclestitches) now. I enjoy better photo shooting skills and a better…

I guess I should be keeping my broken needles and pin instead of throwing them away?

One more beautiful aspect of Japanese culture. I love how thoughtful this is.
