I am in a learning process. In order to explain our “normal” Sashiko in another language, I have to learn why it is normal for us. The learning process includes not only the teaching method, but also a deeper understanding of what I would like to share – Sashiko in the Japanese culture.

I have been having a quite bad headache over this holiday. It is difficult to focus on output in headache. Therefore, the holiday has been a good time to spend some time in inputting. Well… wish I could do more, but both ”Stasis (stillness)” and “Dynamic (movement)” is the part of all kinds, right? – Yes, I was reading about the Yin-Yang philosophy. The series of my learning (Sashiko journey) is available on Patreon – where I share my honest insight about Sashiko & Japanese.

So, people say Sashiko is the Art. They call us Artists. I don’t consider Sashiko as the Art (yet), therefore, we consider us more like artisans, not artists. Well, let’s say, Sashiko is the Art. Then, who defines the value of art? I assume the value of art is evaluated…

“Rhythm”. One of the most important elements of my Sashiko teaching. I am very happy to see my friends who learned Sashiko from me are applying this sort of “foreign” idea to their own stitching. I teach “How to” in my Sashiko Class (Both Online & In-person). If one watches…

This is the same Jacket in yesterday’s post. A bit different angle. Have you realized that this jacket has no “knots”? It is a single layered Jacket. What’s in the photo is mostly the “inside (hiding side)” of the Jacket. In Sashiko, the Japanese didn’t have the luxury to cover…

I am discovering your account because I have a headache and am searching for ideas to help keep me happy while I can’t easily produce crafts. The indigo and hand stitching are helping me look forward to when my migraine is finally gone!
