She once took my workshop. She continued Sashiko stitching with us. Today, I admire her Sashiko & attitude to Sashiko. It is simply beautiful – beyond the words. In a conversation with her, I learn a lot. “The ordinary (stitcher) to the ordinary (user). We may call it tradition after all.” It emphasizes the concept of YoSokuBi (beauty in usage) – 用即美 – that I often talk about. ☆
Words is sometimes insufficient to define what Sashiko is. Her Sashiko drawstring bag gives me a daily excitement of “beauty in usage”. Over many years of days with this bag, I will see the change in color & softness of the fabric. For that matter, I call her items “Sashiko” with respecting all of her Japaneseness. 刺し子において、これまでの僕は「受け取る側」でした。辛いことも沢山あった今年、大きな一歩として心から嬉しいことは、「伝え渡す側」としての役割を少しでも果たせたことです。運針会でご縁を頂いて、ご本人に無理がない範囲で、「ほんの少しの一歩を踏み出すお手伝い」をしたいという思いが形になりました。「趣味」としての刺し子からの、ちょっと先のお話。

「継続性と再現性」を煩く言う僕の願いに根気よく答えて頂きました……。20個限定で制作頂いて、米国に届いた後も1ヶ月ほど僕の目の肥やしにしておりました（笑）。刺し子の針目は、単なる針目です。「刺し手が何を思ってたなんかわからない。単なる想像でしょ？」と時々指摘を頂いたり。確かに想像することしかできないのですが、思いの詰まった針目は、それだけで物語を伝え、そして人を魅了すると思っています。これは先日の「波」の配信にも繋がります。そんな僕が思う「語る刺し子」を、この”ななさんの刺し子巾着”を通して米国の方に届けばいいなぁと思っています。なにはともあれ、ここまで形にできたのが嬉しいです。本当にありがとうございます！

12月20日の運針会、引き続き1席空いております。ななさんは第一期生。折角のデビューの投稿に宣伝ぶち込んですみません。でも次に繋がると思うので（笑）。
