atsushijp, 2019年12月8日

Today (Dec. 8th) is called “Kotoyouka”. The day of beginning the matter of “God (in Animism)” and the day of completing the human activity, in Japanese Ethnic (Folk) customs. So, no Sashiko today. We appreciate the hard work of the needles by bringing them to a shrine. Or if not possible, pay gratitude by stubbing the needles into something soft – here, Tofu. ☆
When I stitch in an appropriate posture, I do not need so many needles per year. It will be more like “pass between” rather than stitch. Well, regardless, a needle is consumable good. In stitching denim, it could easily bend by the force. When stitching curve, it can easily get a unique shape. Therefore, we appreciate and pay respect. All of the matters have a spirit in it. Again, Sashiko is a form of stitching, but the message is more than just good stitching. ☆

Remember the “incredible” Boro we shared a month ago…? Keiko is strongly inspred by the Boro and has been working on that… Wow. They aren’t done yet. However, it has something like Power. I cannot wait to see the result. 2018-02-05 00:59:11 Source

Difference doesn’t mean antagonistic. It is our perspective who interpret “difference” as the “hostile”. We can be friends even with the biggest difference, and this is one message I would like to share throughout Sashiko. ☆ A day before the Koginzashi Workshop, I visited a master to greet in-person. I…

Thank you for reminding me of this. I learned about honoring the needles a few years ago but did not know the name of the day or the date. I feel blessed that it is the same day as my birth🙏💖
