Today (Dec. 8th) is called “Kotoyouka”. The day of beginning the matter of “God (in Animism)” and the day of completing the human activity, in Japanese Ethnic (Folk) customs. So, no Sashiko today. We appreciate the hard work of the needles by bringing them to a shrine. Or if not possible, pay gratitude by stubbing the needles into something soft – here, Tofu. ☆
When I stitch in an appropriate posture, I do not need so many needles per year. It will be more like “pass between” rather than stitch. Well, regardless, a needle is consumable good. In stitching denim, it could easily bend by the force. When stitching curve, it can easily get a unique shape. Therefore, we appreciate and pay respect. All of the matters have a spirit in it. Again, Sashiko is a form of stitching, but the message is more than just good stitching. ☆

I finished writing on my insight of “Cultural Appropriation” in Sashiko. It is a long post on upcyclestitches.com – (Link Available from the Profile)- I appreciate your time to read it mindfully. In short, I will not be offended if they call their stitching Sashiko when they once care if…

Our new friend (from Sashiko Workshop) Loving a Special Sashiko Bag. Her beautiful smile after I handed an item we made. It is so powerful to learn that what we do can make someone smile. In my childhood, well more accurately “until 2011”, I did not realize the power of…

It is kinda off the topic of this account, but I thought it was important to share. When I decided to move to the US, I had nothing but my wife. Toward the end of 2013, I lost pretty much everything I had. The ordinary I never doubted to lose…

Thank you for reminding me of this. I learned about honoring the needles a few years ago but did not know the name of the day or the date. I feel blessed that it is the same day as my birth🙏💖
