I usually wear only one denim pants when I go out – the denim with Sashiko stitc

atsushijp, 2019年9月14日

I usually wear only one denim pants when I go out – the denim with Sashiko stitching. A girl asked me, “Why do you always wear the same pants?”. I replied, “Is it strange? Does it smell bad? I try to clean as much as I can.” She continued, “No, it doesn’t smell, but I don’t know why you wear the same thing everytime I see you.” I questioned back, “why do you ask?” She froze with confusion, then start thinking. We both looked at each other, and I told her, “This denim is my friend. I would rather to care a few denim pants than forgetting others”. She smiled with cheers and said, “Ah, then it is not strange. It is like us.”
☆
Do you remember (care) the cloth you like? Textile (fabric) is not only the materials, but also a part of humanity. The human became human by “wearing”. I would like to tell children that it is okay to wear the same thing everyday (with appropriate cleaning). It is more natural than wearing it and forgetting it, I believe.

It was such a wonderful year thanks to many people who supported our Sashiko activity. A misty dream Keiko and I had in 2014, to introduce Sasiko to the world, took the first step. We enjoyed all the meeting we could have made this year. ☆ We won’t change anything…

One’s ordinary can be someone’s extraordinary. When you only read this “English Story”, Sashiko is something foreign to you. However, I believe, anyone can enjoy, practice, and talk about Sashiko & call their stitching Sashiko. One condition is “to keep learning” it. One can even teach Sashiko when they state…

I have a blue linen dress which was already around 100ys old when I bought it. Since I wear it at least twice a week some people only know me as “that woman with the indigo blue dress” 😁 this dress was once a mens nightdress in white linen became like a second skin for me. This summer some parts of the fabric got thin and I’ve started stitching.

I get the same question from my pupils who are 9- 13 years old. I tell them that they are my favourite jeans. Of course I both wash and mend them. 💙

I love that people will question our choice of wearing the same clothing often. It gives us opportunity to educate them concerning slow fashion and mending what is precious to us.

Thank you for your wise words. Well, I don’t wear jeans at all since I cannot get ethic jeans in Poland, but my linen clothes are what you wrote: my friends. For the whole Summer I’ve been wearing just a few white linen pieces, and I felt as you wrote: I had my friends around me all the time😁 Greetings from Poland💝
