Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

In my previous visit to NYC, I received an interesting advice. It was like “Why don’t you market yourself more aggressively? Not talking about expensive advertisement, but I don’t know why you do not ask others to spread what you do?” Then, I replied, “Well… as a Japanese, I feel a bit uncomfortable asking others for a favor…”. Their reply was eye-opening one to be, “Yes, we understand you are a Japanese, but you are in the US and trying to share Your Sashiko to the people outside of your culture, right? So, you should follow the western culture ‘in order to share what you are passionate about’. It is okay to ask”. It shook my brain. Yes. It is very important to respect the origin of Japanese culture in Sashiko. However, in order to share the core, behaving as a Japanese in a comfortable zone won’t expand its possibility. It is also important to respect the culture to share the Japanese-ness. So, please help us to spread the words – Japanese Sashiko is here.

Another great time in Dumbo, Brooklyn. I appreciate all you took the workshop, visited Loop of the Loom to experience our Sashiko, and talked to me about the passion to take the future Sashiko Workshops after/with the Domestika Sashiko Course. Sashiko often tends to be a lonely job. There are…

As our days continue without missing a beat, Stories are connected to make another bigger story (we may call it History at some point). What I share as “Sashiko Story” is also connected, and what I do is connect all the dots. Unfortunately, Sashiko was introduced in a form of…

I learned that Kim announced her intention to change the name for the underwear from “Kimono” to something else. Thank you very much for all of your care and support. Well, I hear some of the comments I received – it was her PR stunt to get publicity. As a…

When I lived in Japan I was impressed by the Japanese peoples’ ease in working together as a group. Something many of us in the US struggle to do well and without conflict or ego. Seems to me, asking like minded folks on instagram to spread your word is working with a very large group to accomplish your goals. Very Japanese.

I was repulsed and sickened by somebody who would say something about another’s culture and then “being in the u.s. so…” ☆ I’m so sorry..

I’ve been thinking a lot about it and I feel what is lacking among other things is respect.
