Happy 4th of July! I had a great time with my wife and daughter in a community pool. As an immigrant and as a father of a US citizen, I would like to contribute to the USA as much as I can. I respect the USA as much as I do respect Japan. The nation containing and celebrating so many diversity seems to be almost a miracle to me (as a Japanese who lived in a racially-ethnically homogeneous nation). For my friends in the USA,I hope you had a great day with celebrating where we stand today.

Respecting a mono culture is important. Also, appreciating the variety of taste in one’s culture is also beautiful. It is not good or bad. We do not have to live in a dualism. Both traditional and “Inspired” works are precious. Oh, by the way, we (as a business) do not do any “holiday sales” like today or Thanksgiving. We may run the sales events here and there, but I try to not to associate the holiday with the marketing. Only exception is the New Year’s Day to follow the Japanese business customs to celebrate the beginning of New Year. Just in case, if you are following our business account (@upcyclestitches) and expecting the sales event… sorry, we don’t do that based on the holiday. ☆

[2 years since the initial request] Ever since I started offering the Sashiko workshop in NYC, I bring some of Keiko’s beautiful Jackets, like Boro (Inspired) Patchwork Jacket and Hitomezashi Sashiko Jacket. Those are for the potential client, and not for me. So, I made a big request to make…

Until 2013, I didn’t find “a Light” in living. “Joy” and “Happiness” were something “fabricated” as I didn’t know if they existed. The reason for this pessimistic view comes from my childhood & unique environment I had spent until I went to college in the US… at the same time,…

The UnshinKai Jacket is made from 18 pieces of Sashiko Stitching done by today’s Sashiko Artisans. The jacket looks as if it is stitched by one skilled Sashiko artisan… but Keiko connected 18 pieces of unique Sashiko stitching done by Atsushi’s previous Students. “All different, yet All Good” – there…
