I uploaded another video on Youtube (Channel: Sashi.Co). You may be tired of seeing and its hassle. However, it is very important and deeply rooted to the Japanese culture. I asked my family to give me some time to make a video. It is just a bite of my whole message, but I hope you would watch it and hopefully, would care about the Kimono culture.

I felt the similar fear from the past discussion here on “Why do you call it Sashiko? – the Cultural Appropriation in Sashiko that I concluded with me encouraging you to call your stitching Sashiko when you ‘try’ to respect the Japanese culture behind it”. By receiving some comments like “over-reacting”, I felt the fear of the culture being overwritten by individualism (freedom of anything). “Not knowing” is not the problem. Intentional Ignorance (knowing yet not respecting) is the issue here. Well, people do not change that easily. I usually give the 3 smiles (politeness) and then cut them off. If they do not respect the culture behind what I do, they are not welcomed, enjoy whatever they like. However, when it is done by “celebrity”, is the violence of numbers (of people) cannot be stopped? I am very scared. When one is feared to lose something very important, they either give up or fight back. Now, I will fight back as if this is my personal matter – it could happen to Sashiko. ☆

とてもとても大事なことなので、家族にお願いして時間を貰って動画を作りました。着物への「文化の私物化」問題。うんざりしている人もいるかもしれないけれど、もっと怒ろう。米国特許庁はまだ申請を許可したわけじゃないから、間に合うかもしれん。もっと騒いで、「キム、ダサいよね」って多くの人に感じてもらえるように、格好良い日本文化紹介しましょ。

考えれば考える程、これほど怖いことは無いんです。どんな業界にも当てはまることだし、「共有の資産」という意識が高ければ高いほど、この文化の盗用は起こりうる。刺し子も勿論。その単語に投資をするだけのリターンを感じれば、お金が目的の人は動きます。「じゃ、貴方が商標とって守ればいいじゃん」という人もいるかもしれない。でも、この「誰のものでもない」という日本的な考え方も含めての日本文化だと思うのです。考えれば考える程、伝えたいことは増えてきます。また動画作ります。何か僕が話せることがあれば連絡下さい。英語でも日本語でも。

You are not over reacting. Very often people will say that when they want to excuse their lack of sensitivity to the culture and traditions of other people. I support your efforts to help people understand the importance of of being respectful. Also to take the time to understand the history behind things and ideas. A kimono is not just an item of clothing. It has a deeper meaning in Japanese culture. That should be respected. 👍👏🏼❣️

何かできないかと……先日、縁のあった着物屋さんの方に連絡を取って、どんな状況か、と聞いてみたんです。真実、知らないとのこと、会社としても情報は来てないとのことでした。まだまだ、情報の共有すら足りてないのだと思いました。
I can feel your fear! You must stop the fear immediately! It will bring you no good. It is a bad and negative vibration which will indeed materialize what you fear. Please keep continuing what you do with love in your heart. Let go of those chains that seem to hold you prisioner! Meditate and ask for guidance from the universe and the ancient masters. This is my message to you: Fear is always the absence of Love. I know you love Sashiko and you should not be concerned about anybodys opinion but yours and yours alone. Put your love in it and let everything else go.
ビデオ拝見させていただきました。日本語も英語も！見ていて日本人としての悔しさと誇りを感じながら、涙が出てきました。こんな風に堂々と立ち上がって発信して頂いたことと、特許庁まで確認していただいたこと、危機的状況の様子を熱心に分かりやすく伝え、声を上げることを推進していただいたこと、あつしさんの費やされた時間と精神と勇気に敬意を表したいと思います。私は今回の件で、マイストーリーではたくさん声を出しましたが、自分の精神力が安定していなかったので、自分のグリッドでは声を控えてしまいました。前回のブログ以来、まだちょろちょろと「何言ってんの？」と言いたくなるメールが来るのと、インスタのいろんなところでタグされていて（ほとんどは肯定派ですが）、自分の時間とエネルギーが維持できなくて、情けないですが、立ち上がって下さたあつしさんに感謝のの気持ちでいっぱいです。 Yes to “Kimono is our identity, who we are.”😭😭😭
