Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

Thank you for many encouragement in the previous post. It was just a whining :D.

Thank you for many encouragement in the previous post. It was just a whining :D. I do not plan to change or give up on what I once sincerely committed in my life. So so privileged to meet and keep in touch with Sashiko Friends (like you) here. This miracle wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t start this journey of sharing the Sashiko.
☆
Income is necessary. Time with my daughter is important. I used to “provide” the family, and I once was a full-time stay-at-home father. I am determined here in sharing after so many detours. I understand the hand-crafting (especially textile and embroidery) is very challenging field to make a living. The textile art is probably the least (monetarily) valued. Living with “hand-made” sounds insane in super-efficiency-speed-oriented society. Individualism and Opinion are so common that the “anything” can be interpreted as the one prefers (happened to lead the discussion of Cultural Appropriation), yet we all used to be able to do the Sashiko like activity – hand-sewing and mending.
☆
THEREFORE, I am here to share. Aren’t we tired of opinions telling others what is “right”? Don’t we know we live in a human society, not in a digital space? I prefer Empathy over Opinion. I would like to respect a person over the screen or phone – The IT is great, but it is us who keep the humanity, not the algorithm. I hope I am sharing the same messages comprehensively. A lot of messages are on our English Web – UpcycleStitches.com, if you are interested.

I used to want to be “someone special”. What I received as a privilege, Sashiko, seemed too boring and too ordinary. Interestingly, my youth was all about how to be someone else who wasn’t me. After 20~30 years, the ordinary I despised became an important element of my life. You…

Photos are the “Boro” in progress. Yes. We are making “fresh Boro” out of “swatches that didn’t become Boro”. Not only the patchworking but also including “using” and “mending” to be Boro. ☆ I read the news of Forever21 filing Chapter 11. The article was concluded that the “taste” of…
