Our Sashiko Story to Your Sashiko Journey

This is a writing with the intention of self-discipline.

The words completes when the actions come along. “I am appreciate…“ may be meaningless by just saying it. In Zen’s teaching, they say “The truth cannot be explained by words.” Another reason we would like to share the Sashiko as a process (on top of the beautiful results). An act of appreciation here would be simply read what I write instead of reading what they want to read for their purpose. ☆
Then, I wondered:「Is “appreciation” the synonym of “Thank you”?」. According to the dictionary, Appreciation is “a full understanding of a situation” and “recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities”. I tend to use the phrase “I appreciate…” as “thank you for…”. I will be mindful to use the words because I also read what I want to read instead of what they write. The words are not perfect. None of us are perfect. Therefore, I would like to share the beauty of spending time being mindful, either reading, talking, and of course, Sashiko stitching. When we are mindful, I believe we (as human being) can be full of care, by our nature. I appreciate your understanding to the Sashiko journey we are walking on.

Sashi.Coは恵子さん達の作る刺し子と、僕がタジタジになりながら紡ぐ言葉で成り立ったら良いなぁなんて思っています。あ、もちろん僕も刺し子するんですけれど(笑)

Continued from the previous post, I occasionally wonder what “Sashiko” can offer to you here. What I share is so ordinary to me that it takes some time to realize the significance of it. My last 6 years in Sashiko in English was like that. In 2016, no videos/description about…

I think it can be, but I think appreciation has a deeper meaning that cannot be adequately expressed. You can appreciate another person or culture, which I think goes beyond gratitude. When I say I appreciate someone/something, I am grateful for their existence, but it isn’t self-serving (as I think thanking can be – as in something that served me in some way). I can appreciate someone for who they are, regardless of whether or not they did anything for me. I think appreciation also extends into admiration and respect, but also evokes a feeling that can’t be described.

I tried different dictionaries to look at the meaning of appreciative. The most common meanings were:” be grateful for, be thankful or pleased about, give thanks for, value highly, think much of, to hold dear, never forget” and I love this one “overflow with gratitude.” I may not have helped at all but I feel that it is a word with deep meaning. To me you should when I appreciate someone or something I am thankful and grateful and appreciative.

Hi there! I just found you and your YouTube channel! You are such a good teacher! I’m making sashiko for a few years now and its seems that every year its getting more popular around the world. I really appreciate Japanese culture, so your website is a gem!🤩 thank you for share so many details! And personally would like to see your video reviewing Lecien’s new sashiko threads! I’m a quilter as well, and I really like their fabric. Hopefully their sashiko threads will be as good! Have a wonderful day!🌻
