In last few days, I have shared the photos of “close-up Sashiko” in the process of sharing my understanding of Sashiko (well, more like stories of my philosophy & questions). As you may see, each Sashiko stitch is beautiful. However, we barely focus on making ONE beautiful stitch. We enjoy the process of stitching, and as the results, we have numbers of beautiful stitches.
☆
I understand that the origin of Sashiko is to “make fabric more usable”. It varies by regions, but the purpose was making fabric thicker, stronger, warmer, and of course, more beautiful (unique & fashionable). This is the behind story of me saying “Sashiko isn’t about making one perfect stitch.” We make numbers of Sashiko fabrics (swatches) then patchwork them, and it become one beautiful piece stitched by hands. ☆

In 2019, the words “Sashiko” and “Boro” taught me great lessons. Sashiko, Boro, Zen, Kimono, Wabi-Sabi, Matcha, Pecha-Kucha, Ikigai… those words are translated with “something” missing, I feel. I haven’t read all the books, so I shouldn’t speak on behalf of others, but it is insteresting to find out most…

I am preparing for the first “Online Webinar” about Sashiko. It is challenging to summarize into a few hours of presentation, as you know 700 posts here aren’t enough to share the whole. 37 years of my time with Sashiko. Whew. ☆ For some, Sashiko is merely a new trend…
