Photos from the previous projects. The day when my friend asked me to work on the “4-days Denim Project”, it was the day I completed this jacket (after so many days in pending. I appreciate my client for being so patient). It is the same pattern, shippou, but by adding to in a different place of the denim, it looks perfectly different and unique.
☆
It is hand-stitching after all. Even with the same pattern with the similar color, the results become very unique. Sashiko is a form of stitching to make fabric stronger. So does denim become strong as well. I hope we can repurpose and upcycle what we love, and keep wearing them with many stories.
☆

We rarely make a Tapestry, or an item to be just “displayed”. It is because of our belief (value) for the Japanese Folk-Art Movement in the early 20th century. When we make one, we usually have a very specific theme – in this project, we wanted to visualize Atsushi’s statement:…

We all have our own beliefs and justice. No personal belief is identical even in the same culture & language. I am sharing something foreign to you (Sashiko) in my second language (English). Of course, my stories can be different from your expectations. However, that’s the reason you are here….
