Fashion has its seasons. Each year, each season, the fashion designers complete

atsushijp, 2019年4月23日

Fashion has its seasons. Each year, each season, the fashion designers complete to be fashionable. We are not from fashion industry at all, so the non of these words; the season, deadstock, nor trend are familiar with us. We simply make the jackets with whatever we can get with no planning to be “fashionable”. I don’t even know what “fashionable” means anymore.
☆
Please do not misunderstand my “writing” here. I respect the fashion industry. The evolution in fashion enrich the human’s activity – to be beautiful & respect personality are very important. I am just saying, we as Sashi.Co isn’t in the fashion industry (at least in my understanding).
☆
When someone (or a company) wants to collaborate with us, the words we hear is the “lot(s)” and “delivery (production) date”. Since we aren’t in the traditional (fashion) manufacturer, we have very different value in those words. As much as we would like to make “as many” items & “as fast” as possible, it is all-hand-stitched after all. When an artisan doesn’t feel like stitching, it shouldn’t be done because “the stitches” will tell a story by itself. We cannot guarantee the result if we rush the artisans. It is just different. ☆
When we think of “fashion season” in Sashiko, it is “generation” instead of years. I have the jacket as the “social experiment” if I can keep wearing this Jacket (& of course keep mending it) then pass it down to the next generation. We know these pieces already. They are called Boro from many years ago. It isn’t only a story about Sashiko & Boro. Everyone who is reading this should have similar stories in your family. The human being used to “pass down” the culture as I had described here, hand to hand, made by hands. The “fashion” we know is fairly recent human activity.
☆
Again, nothing is the matter of “right” or “wrong”. I am just here to say, “what you used to be ashamed of may be something we, as human being, may need now”. I really appreciate all the comments you leave here. I read them (& will reply when I have more time :D)

Everyday, we put something in a trash bin. It is important to tidy up around us, and we “categorize” items to be valuable or trash. Some items may be really trash… but interestingly, it is up to our own value on what is trash, or even treasure. The value changes…

When I share my concern about “Cultural Sustainability (or even Cultural Appropriation)”, what I point out is not really about “race as who you are” or “priviledge itself”. It is all about the question of “Is it fair?”. I often get misunderstood as if I am accusing a White/Western person…

I sometimes feel that next generations have no interest in the things we wish to pass down. Hoping your work will help inspire change in that 💕

If we feel ashamed of something, its an opportunity to examine why. I agree with not being a production – there is always some loss of quality, even if that quality isn’t visible to the eye.
