I am working hard to film myself for the Online Sashiko Class. I finally convinced myself, and (kine of) overcame the fear of making it available online (without me being there next to you). When it comes to Sashiko, I have no problem getting things done. When it comes to video filming, I feel all of my fingers are thumbs… and worst of all, I am doing it all by myself 😀

The biggest fear for the Online Sashiko Class is about the misunderstanding that I may spread throughout the class. There is more important thing I would like to share beyond the Sashiko technique. Of course, the participants will learn and master the Sashiko running stitches. However, it isn’t the end. I would like to share the wisdom and how to appreciate the life with adding Sashiko to their life. I was so scared that there may be a person who just got what she/he got out of my workshop without the core message I would like to pass down. So I was so hesitant to do this… On-demand Online Sashiko Workshop.

I overcame the fear by deciding to trust others. I will be honest even if I may be a target of “negativity”. I say when I get upset, and I share when I get blast. This is the Sashiko I would like to share, the Sashiko we enjoy.

英語でのオンラインワークショップに向けて、ひたすらビデオにて自分を撮影しています。刺し子ならイメージ通りに進むのに、苦手なことをすると、どうもリズムが崩れます。「Take 10」なんていう場面もありありです。これを一人でやるから、更に鬱になる（笑）

それでも知恵の全てを動画に残すことは、とても意義のあることだろうなと思っています。会員制にはなりますが、それを公開する覚悟もできました。ここまでくると、もう「信じる」しかないかなと。ずっと誤解されることを恐れていましたが、そこも含めて素直に曝け出すのが今の僕にできることかなと思っています。結果的に敵を作ってしまうことになろうとも、正直な気持ちで誠心誠意向き合うこと。刺し子と布にはできるのに、なんて人は複雑なんだろうね。

何に恐れている（た）かと言うと、何を誤解されたくなかったかと言うと、「技術としての刺し子が学べればいい」と思ってほしくないのです。運針会でもNYCでのワークショップでも、技術よりも心構えを第一に伝えるようにしていて、しっかりそれが伝わったことを確認するようにしています。「技術の向こう側にある、技術よりも大切なもの」をどう伝えるか。今後も試行錯誤は続きそうです。
