Sashiko is a form of hand-stitching (=process), and the Boro is an ultimate result of repeating Sashiko. The definition of each words, Sashiko and Boro, can be wide-interpreted, but Sashiko and Boro are not equal. In the Japanese language, Sashiko can be a verb, but Boro doesn’t work as the verb. ☆
The photo is the Boro Jacket Atsushi wears in ordinary days. When we get a whole, we patch another vintage fabric and do Sashiko. When the fabric get thinner, we perform Sashiko to make the fabric stronger. It is the original process of the “Boro” is made. In this Internet society, we research what we would like to research, and get the piece of information as a whole. It is one of our responsibility to translate as much information as possible regarding the Sashiko we are proud of. ☆

I am so grateful to have so many friends who help me to learn more here, youtube, Patreon and everywhere else. I keep educating myself to represent “it” better. Thank you. ☆ Sashiko is, indeed, the practice of Sustainability. The resources we have are limited. Therefore, we need to educate…

“How to care & respect” is a difficult topic. One saying “I care about your culture” isn’t really enough. “Care & Respect” can be validated by action – not by just words. Words are, of course, important. However, if they support the people who appropriate the culture (directly/indirectly) because of…

In March, I am allocating my time in stitching as much as I can. If you are in textile (or in any craft for that matter), unfortunately, “making” itself often does not make ends meet. It is extremely difficult to make a living out of just “hand-making”. I wish I…

Thank you!!!! We were just asking this question at QuiltCon ‘19 in Nashville, TN, USA. I was able to take classes on Sashiko, Boro, and Siddi (India). I’m loving it all.
