One of the milestones I remember for start enjoying Sashiko is this denim. I really disliked Sashiko in my childhood. After so many events in my life, now I am proud of myself saying that I like Sashiko.

Some ask me “What is so fun about Sashiko?” I hated that kind of question because I was also the one who questioned myself why I needed to do Sashiko. Now, I can say proudly, that “you will understand once you do it.” It is our, my mother and my, goal to share the fun of Sashiko. Any form of Sashiko is fine. Denim is great. Doesn’t have to be Indigo fabric and white thread. Being mindful without trying to be mindful is so much fun 🙂 Have a great time with Sashiko.

「刺し子の原点」なんていう大層なものはありませんが、僕の「刺し子のきっかけ」という作品があります。きっと、皆様にもあると思います。僕にとって、「刺し子」が今の僕の愛する刺し子になったきっかけが、デニムへの刺し子です。「何が楽しいの？」と聞かれると、正直困るのです。昔はその質問が大嫌いでした。僕もやりたくてやってるわけじゃないって。でも今は、苦笑いしつつ、「刺し子、楽しいよ」と理由のない楽しさを共有するようにしています。論理じゃなく感覚。なぜ楽しいのか、そりゃ、刺し子したらわかりますよ……と。そんな刺し子を今後も広めていきたいなぁと思っています。

@bensorrellart Denim requires a bit of power so, yes, it could bring some pain. But it is doable for a long time by using the palm thimble 😀 Your works look fantastic!

@sashikonami ありがとうございます。長年見てきて「ちょっと古いんだよなぁ」と思っていた刺し子に対する思いを変えてくれた、いい思い出です。デニムはやっぱり大好きですね〜。
@fukui_ma ご想像の通り、デニムへの刺し子は他と比べて大変ですが、指ぬきからの力を利用するので、それほど手が痛くなるということはないですね。一日ずーっとやってられます（時間が許せば……ですが）。

I would like to ask you how you marked and stitched evenly on heavy bulky denim. I’m working on top below the pocket. I can’t get either a chalk pencil or a waxy transfer paper to mark on the bulky jeans. Did you put something inside to push and draw against? I put cardboard inside. I sure need some help
