A photo of Boro that I was preparing to show in the coming up workshop in 2/16, Thursday, at Purl Soho NYC (@purlsoho). Keeping the small piece of fabric, and use it to mend the fabric to reuse (upcycle) it. It is the core of Sashiko, and the extreme result is Boro. It is my dream to share the actual beauty of Boros. It is beautiful to look at, but it is “something” to actually feel it. One day. One day I will visit your country, city, and place. ☆
Sashiko Workshop at Purl Soho NYC is on Feb 16th Saturday. Check their web for the detail. https://www.purlsoho.com/sashiko-workshop-february-16-10-4pm.html ☆

Follow-up video of Boro, back and front side of the Jacket. Some of us (including myself) feel beauty on the patchworks, but traditionally (like Keiko) we hide those patches inside. This is the Boro jacket I wear in ordinary days to recreate the “routine” that the Japanese made Boro in….

“Boro (襤褸)” in Japanese has several meanings. It can be a used & worn piece of fabric, as you know. Boro can mean “Horse droppings”, and it can be Onomatopoeia. Each meaning has a sense of “dirty” and “poor”. Some of the Sashiko artisans I knew never wanted to touch…

Upon a request. Here is the “inside” of Atsushi’s “on-going” Boro Jacket. “Inside” is usually a “hiding” side, which deeply related to the Japanese sense of shame… so, if I were a peasant from the 17 century in Japan, I may not be sharing this photo. ☆ From the Art…
